The Pendleton Cottages Project

Picture
The PCP is a community-based effort established to assist with the replacement of thirteen “Cottages” that serve a recreational need for current and retired military personnel.  The facility is located at San Onofre Beach on the Camp Pendleton base.  These cottages and RV sites are available for a nominal rental fee to all branches of service.  The new cottages are focused on the special needs of wounded warriors.

The prior “Cottages” (now replaced) were actually trailers that were beyond the ability to repair. They are over 35 years old, crumbling, and without handicap accessibility.

Our informal group is grateful to have worked with the San Diego Nice Guys Victory Fund.  The Nice Guys have generously offered to act in their not-for-profit capacity as fiscal agent for the PCP and provided funding for four new Cottages.  Our contractor, Homes by Hedges of Valley Center, worked with us to acquire and install manufactured homes (“cottages”) that replaced the old units.  The new cottages are handicap-friendly, one and two bedroom units replacing one bedroom units.  Our last unit is a three bedroom unit.  They are built to last – metal roofs, composite siding and railings and stainless steel appliances.

Ownership of each cottage has been transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps to be operated by Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS).

As of August, 2019, we have completed the installation of thirteen cottages on base.  A dedication service was held on August 15, 2019.  We are not actively seeking sponsors for future units.   We are proud to say that our Project is now complete.  Each cottage has been be dedicated with a plaque honoring the donor or the donor’s designee, such as an organization, company, or family member who has served in the military.
